One down cut, one up cut in order.

Each competitor must provide their own accessories
including: Hearing protection, eye protection, ballistic nylon safety pants or chaps and steel toe
work boots. Leather gloves not required.

The competitor will start the saw and place
it on the ground. Note that the chain must not be moving when
saw is operating at idle rpm.

At the signal given by the judge, the competitor must pick up the saw and saw a complete cut through the top of the log, then cut a complete cut up through the log. Host schools must provide logs no greater than 30 cms (12 inches) in diameter.

If the disc should break for any reason,
the competitor must cut an additional disc to complete event. The additional disc must be cut in the same direction as the broken or incomplete disc. (i.e. competitors must have 1 down cut complete disc and 1 up cut complete disc to be awarded a time).
- Only team members may assist in holding
the cant.

The wood will be marked with a line drawn around the entire block, 10 centimeters (4 inches) in from the end of the block. If this line is completely severed or the competitor cuts on the other side of the line the competitor is disqualified.

The saws are to be running, and competitor’s hands must be resting on a line drawn on the top of the block until “Go”.

Warm Up: 15 seconds to warm up the saw. The countdown will begin 15 seconds after the end of the warm up period.
- Time Starts: On the word “Go”.

The time will be taken from the starting signal "Go" until the second (2nd) disc is clearly severed.

Failure to cut complete disks or cutting over the line marked on the wood will result in disqualification.

The saw must be started in a safe manner. Drop starting will result in disqualification.

If the saw shuts off after the contestant touches it, the contestant can restart it and finish the cut and then turn it over to the judge who will determine if the saw is still working correctly.
- If the saw is determined to be in working order, then the contestant’s time stands.

If the saw is determined to be malfunctioning, a new saw will be introduced and the competitor will be granted a re-cut. If a new saw is introduced, all competitors will have to start again.

Greenhorns will not be permitted to participate
in this event.

Setup
If this event is run in a heat where two saws are to be used, both need new chains and must be identicallty matched saws (a tachometer should be used to ensure this is upheld).
