Obstacle Race
Pool Singles Event
Object:
The object of this event is to complete an obstacle course in
the shortest time possible. The course consists of six segments:
choker set, sap bucket emptying, pulp piling, firewood toss for
accuracy, chainsaw throw, and bowsawing while on a springpole.
Set Up:
The course will be laid out so that the contestant proceeds from
the start to the sap bucket, to the pile of pulp, to the choker
set log, to the firewood toss, to the springpole.
- The pulp pile will consist of 8 logs stacked between two stakes.
Two other adjacent stakes will mark the area where the pulp
will be piled.
- The choker log will be elevated above the ground.
- The firewood target will be 46 cms (18") in diameter.
- The springpole will be a gently sloping log with a 6x6 section
of white pine attached to the end. The springpole will not be
supported by any team members.
- The home team will provide the choker, chainsaw, and sap
buckets. Contestants supply their own pulp hook (if desired)
and Bowsaw.
- Contestants may leave their tools wherever desired before
the event begins, except for the choker which must be behind
the starting line.
Procedure
- The contestant will start from behind a foul line.
- Time starts on "GO". The choker must be thrown
before the contestant's foot crosses the foul line.
- The contestant will then run to the hanging sap bucket, empty
its contents into a pail, rehang and cover, then run to a barrel
where the 'sap' will be deposited.
- The contestant will then proceed to pile several pieces of
pulp wood between two (2) stakes.
- The contestant will then retrieve the choker and run along
the top of the choker log without falling off (repeat, if necessary)
and fasten the choker securely enough such that the judge can
give it a pull and it will not fall off.
- The contestant will then attempt to throw 10 pieces of firewood
through a 18 inch (46 cms) diameter target (3 seconds will be
deducted from the total event time for every piece of wood that
passes through the target).
- The contestant will then stand on the base of a springpole
and grab a pre-positioned "homeowner's" chainsaw,
give the starter cord three (3) full pulls (it will not start),
and throw it to the ground in disdain.
- The contestant will then grab his or her trusty, pre-positioned
bowsaw and proceed to saw a complete cookie from a 6x6 section
of white pine.
- Time stops when the cookie separates.
Each contestant's score will be determined by
the total elapsed time (after adjustments for accurate firewood
throwing), plus additional time for penalties as follows:
- Failure to properly rehang the sap bucket
and cover:
30 seconds
- Spilling excessive 'sap': judges discretion

the stakes:
