The belayer is used to support a spur-our that could occur up and down the pole ONLY. Competitors must climb down the pole or they will be disqualified. NO FREE FALL IS ALLOWED.

This event is timed from the GO signal until the competitor
has touched a bell supported at the top of a hydro pole. The total height from the bell to the ground should be 8.53 metres (28 feet).

A belay 12 mil. (1/2 inch) professional climbing rope is mandatory
and will be provided by the host school. The individual on the belay
rope must be experienced, unbiased and consistent throughout the
competition.
- Bell must be rung by competitor’s hand.

Spurs to be used must be CSA or meet current industry safety
standards. No homemade toe spurs will be permitted. Buck straps
are optional. CSA spurs worn contrary to manufacturers specifications do not meet manufacturers safety specifications.
- No part of the competitor or the competitor's equipment may
touch the pole before the GO signal.

Effort must be made by host school to ensure a short tether
for the bell. This will prevent unnecessary swinging of the bell
during climber ascent.
- Competitors must wear a certified safety belt.
- Setup
The corral must be determined by the head judge to be a safe distance
from the spectators.
Hay bales may be at the base of the pole.
