Quarter Split
Core Doubles Event / Safety Code Amber

Note: Competitors participating in the Underhand Chop or Standing Block Chop are not eligible for this event.

  1. Two (2) team members must each quarter a bolt of wood in the shortest time possible.

  2. Bolts will be 45-50cm (18-19 1/2 inches) in length and may vary in diameter but must be between 15 and 20cm (6-8 inches) in diameter.

  3. Painted dots on bolts will be 5cm. (2 inches) in diameter.

  4. A total of eight (8) split, full length pieces with paint on one end is necessary for the successful completion of this event. Less that eight (8) pieces (4 per competitor) will result in disqualification.

  5. The second competitor must not begin until the first competitor is finished splitting. The first competitor will not be allowed to split again once the second competitor has begun. Disqualification will result otherwise.

  6. At no time may hands be used to touch the wood. After time has been called by competitors, they shall not be allowed to touch the wood again.

  7. Feet may be used to move the wood, but not to hold it or to break it apart.

  8. Athletes must be protected by steel from toes to and including their shins.  If this protection comes off at any time during the event, they must be put back on immediately or disqualification will result.  Time will continue to run.

  9. Unmodified, conventional axes only may be used. One per competitor. Mauls will be disallowed and will be identified at the discretion of the head judge.

  10. Replacement axes may be used in the event of breakage.

  11. There is a 10 minute time limit for this event. Any team reaching this time will be awarded points based on a percentage of the winning time.

  12. Setup
    The corral must be determined by the head judge to be a safe distance from the spectators.
    Ensure the teams and spectators are kept at a safe distance.
    Only competing athletes are permitted in the corral.
    Wood must be numbered with a colour other than the painted dots.
