Standing Block Chop
Core Doubles Event / Safety Code Amber

Note: Competitors participating in the Underhand Chop or Quarter Split are not eligible for this event.

  1. The event will be timed from the GO signal until two (2) team members have each cut through a vertically supported cant.

  2. Prior to the event the measurement for the diameter of the log will be taken.

  3. Upon completion of the first competitor's chop the second competitor may begin. Each competitor may turn once during the chop. Should the second competitor begin chopping before the first competitor has completed, disqualification will result.

  4. Athletes must be protected by steel from toes to and including their shins.  If this protection comes off at any time during the event, they must be put back on immediately or disqualification will result.  Time will continue to run.

  5. The first competitor may not restart once the second competitor has begun. Disqualification will result otherwise.

  6. Slabbing rule is in effect. Competitors must make an effort to avoid slabbing by spiking chopping faces. Spikes/nails must be provided by the competitor. Three spikes driven on each chopping face must be at least 7.62cm (3 inches) long and be driven all the way into cant.

  7. A maximum five (5) minute time limit will be allotted per competitor. Any team reaching this time will be awarded points based on a percentage of the winning time.

  8. If the log becomes dislodged from its stanchions before completing the cut, the team is disqualified.

  9. The maximum diameter of logs for ladies is 15.24 x 15.24 cms (6 x 6 inches) if squared, and 22.86 cms (9 inches) if round.  The maximum size for men will be 20.32 x 20.32 cms (8 x 8 inches) if squared, and 27.94 (11 inches) if round.


  10. Setup
    The corral must be determined by the head judge to be a safe distance from the spectators.
    Ensure the teams and spectators are kept at a safe distance.
    Only competing athletes are permitted in the corral.
