Swede Saw
Core Team Event / Safety Code Blue

  1. One (1) disc per competitor must be completed in the swede saw event.

  2. Two (2) halves leaving the cant does not constitute a complete disc. A disk would be considered “complete” if a sheer cut is less than 1 centimeter (0.4 inches).  Sheer cuts greater than 1 centimeter (0.4 inches) will receive a 1 second penalty for each infraction.

  3. Blade must be on the log to start the event but must not be moved before the word "go" or disqualification will result.

  4. At a signal from the judge, a competitor must re-cut immediately if a complete disc is not cut. Re-cuts must be done by the competitors that broke the disk, if not disqualification will result.

  5. Time will stop when the last disc is cut from the cant.

  6. Chain binders, straps or teammates weight on the log may assist with the securing of the log.

  7. Teams must make all their cuts within 50cms (20 inches). An allowance for knots may be made at the discretion of the judge.

  8. Only a competing team member may spray the saw with any type of foreign substance during the event (i.e.: WD-40).

  9. For safety reasons, a 7th person may hold a spare saw in the event of breakage. The saw may not be handed to the competitors.

  10. A broken or bent saw tooth, a broken or loosened saw handle is considered to be equipment breakage.

  11. If wood is squared, it may not exceed 19.8 x 19.8 cms (8 x 8 inches). If wood is round, a determined effort must be made by the host school to ensure uniformity.

  12. All wood must be squared or round, and bark free.

  13. Saw horse height must be 64 centimeters to the bottom of the cant plus or minus 5cm (25 inches plus or minus 2 inches).

  14. Competitors are not permitted to touch the disks until the Judges have made their decision.

  15. Setup
    The corral must be determined by the head judge to be a safe distance from the spectators.
    Only competing athletes are permitted in the corral.
    Logs must be securely fastened.
    Any body weight on the stanchion must be within the stanchion frame.
